The Game Awards, merupakan ajang penghargaan game paling bergengsi. Setelah menghitung semua vote yang masuk sejak pertengahan bulan November lalu, The Game Awards akhirnya mengumumkan daftar pemenang di masing-masing kategori

Dalam The Game Awards 2023 salah satu permainan RPG atau Role Playing Game “Baldur’s Gate 3” berhasil meraih juara untuk nominasi Game of the Year.

Selain Game of the Year, game Baldur’s Gate 3 juga meraih penghargaan Best Performance (untuk Neil Newbon), Best Community Support, Best Multiplayer, Best RPG, dan Player's Voice.

Game ini berhasil mengalahkan beberapa game populer seperti Alan Wake 2, Marvel’s Spider Man 2, Resident Evil 4 Remake, Super Mario Bro. Wonder, dan The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dinilai layak memenangkan gelar tersebut berdasarkan kreativitas dan aspek teknisnya. Swen Vincke, pendiri Larian Studios yang mengembangkan game ini, menyampaikan kebahagiaannya, "Saya tidak menyangka akan memenangkan penghargaan ini. Terima kasih."

Pemilik Larian Studios juga mengakui bahwa pengembangan game ini tidak mungkin terjadi tanpa tim yang luar biasa. Dia berterima kasih kepada seluruh tim yang terlibat.

Vincke juga menghormati timnya yang tetap berkomitmen mengembangkan game ini di tengah pandemi COVID-19. Penghargaan ini didedikasikan terutama untuk mereka yang bekerja keras.

"Selama proses pengembangan, kami kehilangan beberapa anggota tim karena COVID-19. Jadi, kami ingin mengabdikan penghargaan Game of the Year ini kepada tim kami, terutama kepada Jim Southworth, pemimpin animasi sinematik di Baldur’s Gate 3," ungkapnya.

Di The Game Awards 2023, game lain yang meraih prestasi besar adalah Alan Wake 2 yang berhasil memenangkan tiga penghargaan, sementara Forza Motorsport keluar sebagai pemenang dengan dua penghargaan.

Namun, game lokal A Space for the Unbound dari Mojiken Studio tidak berhasil memenangkan kategori Games for Impact. Penghargaan dalam kategori ini justru diraih oleh game action-adventure, Tchia.

Meskipun mendapatkan tujuh nominasi, Marvel's Spider-Man 2 ternyata tidak berhasil memenangkan satupun kategori di The Game Awards 2023.
